Where Stories Begin

Twelve Weeks to Discover Your Stories

Writing is sanctuary. When we write, the noise of the world fades, and we begin to hear the sound of our own voice. Writing helps us understand who we are, how we move through the world, and how we connect with others. As Amy Tan reflects in her memoir ‘Where the Past Begins: A Writer’s Memoir‘, writing is a way to meet ourselves. It is a conversation with our lives—a moment when we sit with our many selves and begin to uncover the truths hidden within us.

Sometimes, writing feels like wandering without direction. You might write for an hour without finding a clear path, but then, seemingly out of nowhere, a spark ignites, and a story emerges. Often, it is a surprise to meet yourself in the writing. In these moments, as Amy Tan describes, there’s a “profound truth”—something you understand deeply about yourself, life, and what it means to be human. It’s hard to explain or quantify, but if you’ve ever written with intention, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Over the years, I’ve discovered that the more theory we learn, the harder it becomes to simply write. The more we analyze, the less we create. While there’s no shortage of advice or rules about writing, the truth is that there shouldn’t be rules for telling your story. There’s no magic formula, no perfect plan. Stories can’t be “fixed” before they’re born.

This twelve-week course is designed to help you uncover the stories you are ready to tell. It’s not about polishing or perfecting—there will be time for that later. This course is about digging deep, discovering, and giving your stories the space to emerge. Whether you feel stuck or just need a nudge to start, these twelve weeks will guide you toward meeting yourself in the writing and finding the stories waiting to be told.
